Position:               Steno Typist/ Typist

Level:                   SS 05

Salary range:        $17,511 – $22,114

Location:              Savusavu

Unit/Division:       Magistrates Court

Reporting Responsibilities;

  1. Reports to:           Senior Court Officer I
  2. Liaises with:         Referee, Court Support Staff
  3. Subordinates:       Nil

 

The Position

This position is responsible to the respective Registry Head in the Magistrates Court for secretarial support services.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Typing of documents, forms, typing of Court proceedings, correspondences, returns, judgments, orders, decisions, rulings, cause list, reports, vouchers and any other official document;
  2. Transcribing notes of evidence and dictation notes and compile records for approval purposes;
  3. Answering telephone calls and other duties as assigned by the Supervising Officers;
  4. Maintaining of Files/Registers in the Registry;
  5. Providing counter and telephone service to the members of the public.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

The Person

A pass in Fiji Seventh Form Examination [FSFE] or equivalent with 35wpm typing speed on manual typewriter or 40wpm typing speed on electronic/electric typewriter.  Relevant work experience is advantageous.  The following Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities are required to successfully undertake this role:

 

Knowledge and Experience 

  1. Sound knowledge and experience in word processing and computer programs;
  2. Sound knowledge of legislative requirements, policies and directives;
  3. Relevant work experience is an added advantage.

 

Skills and Abilities

The applicant should have demonstrated the following skills and abilities:

  1. Good typing skills and ability to provide efficient and effective typing and secretarial services;
  2. Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  3. Ability to utilize computer programs to support the operations of the Registry;
  4. Ability to follow instructions and organize workload in order to meet deadlines;
  5. Ability to participate in programmes/activities required and be a team player;
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information;
  7. Shorthand skill is advantageous.

 

Personal Character and Eligibility

Applicants for employment in the Judicial Department must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicant will be required to provide a medical report and police clearance prior to taking up duty.
