Reporting Responsibilities;

  1. Reports to: Senior Court Officer I, High Court Lautoka
  2. Liaises with: High Court Staff, Court Support Staff, Judicial Officers
  3. Subordinates: Court Officer, Assistant Court Officers, GWEs (Messenger- High Court)

 

The Position

This position exist to assist the Senior Court Officer I to implement and supervise all the legal procedure functions for the High Court, ensuring their compliance with the legislative requirements of Acts, Rules and Regulations relating to the functions of the High Court System.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Senior Court Officer I for all support staff and services allocated to the above registries;
  • General supervision of counter services for the public and legal client;
  • Ensuring adequate Clerk allocation to the respective Courts;
  • Ensuring daily revenue collection and banking;
  • Maintaining a database and register for movement of case files;
  • Timely preparation of court records and statistics on all case;
  • Ensuring the timely preparation of court cause lists and cases for hearing, including notification to parties concerned and updating of court diaries;
  • Supervision of the Sheriff’s Officers for the execution and prosecution of cases;
  • Providing information, advice and professional assistance whenever required to the public and legal clientele;
  • Conducting assessment, submission of recommendations and reports on the performance of Temporary Relieving Officers, contract officers and acting appointments of officers under the jurisdictions.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

The Person

An applicant must have a relevant Diploma/Degree from a recognised institution with 4 years work experience in an interpretation field and should have exposure in a supervisory role OR 9 years work experience in interpretation field. A pass in Departmental Exams X1, X2, X3 and Service Examination H1, H2 or H are an added advantageous. The following Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities are also required to successfully undertake this role:

 

Knowledge and Experience

  1. Sound knowledge and understanding of the legislative requirements of the Fijian Constitution, Acts, High Court rules & amendments and Procedures in relation to the function of the Court System;
  2. Knowledge of legal terms, principles and court etiquette;
  3. Knowledge and understanding of Civil Service Act, ER Act, OHS Act, General Orders, Department Policies, and Directives;
  4. At least 4 years work experience in interpretation field and should have exposure in a supervisory role Or 9 years work experience in interpretation field;
  5. Knowledge and experience in compiling reports and making appropriate submission in regards to the operation of the Court Registry and administrative matters;
  6. Experience of supporting the Senior Management team including meetings, presentations and discussions on policy and administrative issues.

The applicant should have demonstrated the following skills and abilities:

  1. Strong written and oral communication skills together with good public relations and customer service skills;
  2. Planning, time management and organization skills;
  3. Ability to interpret legislation, policies and procedures;
  4. Demonstrated ability to report writing, submissions and maintain confidentiality of information;
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage, supervise and motivate staff;
  6. Capacity to utilize computer programs to support the operation of the Registry.

 

Personal Character and Eligibility

Applicants for employment in the Judicial Department must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 55, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicant will be required to provide a medical report and police clearance prior to taking up duty.
