Reporting Responsibilities;
a) Reports to: Deputy Registrar, Western
b) Liaises with: High Court Staff, Court Support Staff, Judicial Officers
c) Subordinates: Senior Court Officer II , Court Officers, Assistant Court Officers, GWEs (Messenger- High Court)
The Position
This position is responsible to the Deputy Registrar and Honourable Judges and Masters of the Court to implement and supervise all the legal procedure functions for the High Court, ensuring their compliance with the legislative requirements of Acts, Rules and Regulations relating to the functions of the High Court System.
Key Responsibilities
• Being responsible for all support staff and services allocated to the above registries;
• Maintaining a database and register for movement of case files;
• Timely preparation of court records and statistics on all cases;
• Ensuring the timely preparation of court cause lists and cases for hearing, including notification to parties concerned and updating of court diaries;
• Supervision of the Sheriff’s Officers for the execution of warrants and serve court process (NOAH, summons, notices etc);
• Providing information, advice and professional assistance whenever required to the public and legal clientele;
• Assisting management in training of staff on the job and other administrative matters for the overall development of the department;
• Preparing, compiling and the submission of statistics, for the various registries under jurisdictional provision;
• Preparing, compiling and the submission of monthly and quarterly arrears of revenue of unpaid fines due to the Government;
• Checking and compiling of court records for transfer and appeal to Fiji Court of Appeal;
• Ensuring the proper functioning of the registries and the Court and Management of its resources;
• Compilation and submission of monthly absence returns;
• Assisting in policy making through recommendations on staffing, training matters, systems improvement and budgeting;
• Preparation of monthly and quarterly reports;
• Conducting assessment, submission of recommendations and reports on the performance of Temporary Relieving Officers, contract officers and acting appointments of officers under the jurisdictions;
• Facilitating requests and provides assistance to the Judicial Officers in Western Division.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The Person
A relevant Diploma/ Degree from a recognised institution with at least 5 years work experience in interpretation duties and at senior level with supervisory role OR 15 years work experience in interpretation duties. A pass in Departmental Exams X1, X2, X3 and Service Examination H1, H2 or H are an added advantage to the post. The following Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities are also required to successfully undertake this role:
Knowledge and Experience
1. Sound knowledge and understanding of the legislative requirements of the Fijian constitution, Acts, Policies, Court Rules and Procedures in relation to the function of the Court System;
2. Knowledge of legal terms, principles and court etiquette;
3. At least 5 years work experience in interpretation duties and at senior level with supervisory role OR 15 years work experience in interpretation duties;
4. Knowledge and experience in compiling reports and making appropriate submission in regards to the operation of the Court Registry and administrative matters;
5. Experience of supporting the Senior Management team including meetings, discussion of plans, policy and administrative issues.

1. Strong written and oral communication skills together with good public relations and customer service skills;
2. Good planning, time management and organization skills;
3. Ability to interpret legislations, policies and procedures;
4. Demonstrated ability to report writing, submissions and maintain confidentiality of information;
5. Demonstrated ability to manage, supervise, motivate staff and work as a productive team leader;
6. Capacity to utilize computer programs to support the operation of the Registry;
7. Ability to conduct First Aid and Fire Wardens activities when need arises.
Personal Character and Eligibility
Applicants for employment in the Judicial Department must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicant will be required to provide a medical report and police clearance prior to taking up duty.
